A Camino with purpose: Burgos → Santiago for Hospital San Miguel
This October, Majenklis Nedeska is taking on a challenge: cycling the Camino de Santiago, from Burgos to Santiago de Compostela, along the Camino Francés.
It will be close to 500 kilometres in just three days, with a goal that goes beyond simply reaching Santiago: raising funds to support Hospital San Miguel, in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
For Majenklis, a clinical laboratory scientist specialising in parasitology and working in healthcare, this challenge also carries a very special meaning. In December she will travel to Ecuador to volunteer with Quina Care, contributing her laboratory experience and taking part in a research project.
"I've always loved a challenge, the mountains and sport, but this time I wanted every kilometre to have a purpose. Cycling almost 500 km to Santiago will be a huge challenge, and it means a lot to me that the effort can also become support for Hospital San Miguel and for the communities who receive care there."
Quina Care works to make medical care accessible in a remote region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, where Hospital San Miguel provides care to communities with limited access to health services.
