Sports for a Better World
The Amazon holds a special place in my heart. During my travels through Ecuador, I encountered the impressive nature and indigenous communities who have a strong connection with their environment. Their knowledge of plants and animals, and their way of life and celebration, made a lasting impression on me.
At the same time, I saw how fragile this region is and how the people suffer from oil extraction, drug violence, and all the misery that results from it.
Hospital San Miguel
During my travels, I visited Hospital San Miguel in Puerto El Carmen. This hospital, operated by Quina Care Ecuador, provides good and affordable care to thousands of people in an area where access to medical services is limited. The distances are great and local health posts often cannot provide adequate care.
It's wonderful to see how Jacob and Carolien are dedicated through their foundation and hospital to helping people on the other side of the world.
The Putumayo Bootcamp
I wanted to contribute to the Putumayo Loop that Quina Care organizes: sports for a good cause. I reached out to some enthusiasts in my sports network in Zwolle and found Tiemen from Tough Love Bootcamp, who had great ideas for organizing a fun sports morning in the park.
My running buddy Peter Jansen from AV PEC was also enthusiastic about contributing from his running store, Lopers Company Zwolle.
Together we're organizing the Putumayo Bootcamp on Saturday, October 17 in Weezenlandenpark in Zwolle. For one hour we alternate running and strength exercises. Everyone can participate, regardless of your fitness level.
The Goal
With this event, we want to raise money for Hospital San Miguel. The daily costs of the hospital – such as medicines, salaries, maintenance, and cleaning – are a monthly challenge. Every euro helps keep the hospital running.
So: sign up, alone or with your sports buddies. Get sponsored or contribute what you can afford. Via the donate button on this page, you can submit your sponsorship contribution. This way we'll see how much money we raise together for the hospital and know who we'll be sweating for on October 17 in the park.
Every euro counts!
