Van der Lely Foundation supports accessible healthcare in Ecuador's Amazon region

Stichting Quina Care receives a multi-year contribution of €272,000 from the Van der Lely Foundation. With this contribution, the foundation supports the continuity of Hospital San Miguel in Ecuador. This allows the hospital to continue providing quality medical care to residents of Putumayo, Cuyabeno and the border region with Colombia in the coming years. The contribution is distributed over a period of five years.

Quina Care is a Dutch foundation that is committed to accessible healthcare in Ecuador's Amazon region. In this remote area, distances are large and medical care is not taken for granted. Hospital San Miguel is for thousands of people the nearest place where they can seek consultation, treatment or emergency care. Residents from neighboring Colombia also use the hospital.

"Where you live should not determine whether you have access to good healthcare. Quina Care makes medical care accessible to people in a remote part of the Amazon region, where such care is far from obvious. With this contribution, we help ensure that care remains available in the years to come," says Joop Ham, director of the Van der Lely Foundation.

"The continuity of the care we have been providing to the residents of Putumayo and beyond for almost five years is vital to many people. The contribution from the Van der Lely Foundation makes an absolute difference in ensuring this care for the next five years"

— Jacob van der Ende, tropical physician and founder Quina Care Ecuador

Thanks to the Van der Lely Foundation's contribution, Quina Care can continue to invest in the daily healthcare delivery of Hospital San Miguel. In this way, the foundation contributes to the continuity of medical care for thousands of people in a region where good care is not taken for granted.
