People raise money for Quina Care in all sorts of different ways. They organize a marathon, take on a cycling trip, bake cakes, ask for no presents for their birthday or wedding, collect something, or sell something instead. Every one of those fundraisers gets its own page on this website, where friends, family and colleagues can donate.
Want to do something like that yourself? You do not need to email us first to ask how it works. This page explains exactly that, and at the bottom you will find the form you can use to set up your fundraiser yourself.
What is a fundraiser?
A fundraiser is something you do, where other people sponsor you and the money goes to Quina Care. It does not matter how big or small it is. Some raise a few hundred euros, others a few thousand. Both help.
One thing worth knowing up front: the money goes straight to Quina Care and is not paid out to you. Donors give through our own donate button, the money arrives in our account, and your page shows live how much has been raised. That means you never have to collect, hold or transfer money yourself. It saves you the hassle, and donors know exactly where their money ends up.
How it works
1. You decide what you are going to do
A sporting challenge, a dinner, an auction, a birthday — whatever you like. Think about when your fundraiser ends and how much you hope to raise.
2. You fill in the form
In the form you tell us what you are going to do and why, and you choose a photo. As you type, you see your page take shape right beside it.
That preview is an indication, not the finished article. It shows roughly how much text fits and how your photo comes out, so you can adjust your story on the spot. We build the final page, and it may look slightly different in places.
You do not have to get it right in one go: if you prefer, write your story somewhere else first and paste it in afterwards.
3. We build your page
Your submission comes to us and we set the page up for you. You will usually hear from us within a week. We check your text for mistakes, take care of the translations into the other languages on this site, and send you the link as soon as it is live.
We will contact you if anything is unclear or if we think something could be better. You always see the page before it goes public.
4. You share it
From that moment it is over to you. Share the link in your own network — WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or simply by email. Your page also carries a QR code you can download and put on a flyer or poster.
Meanwhile your own page shows the amount raised climbing and the number of backers growing.
What do you need?
Have these ready before you start:
- A title. Short and concrete: "I am running the Rotterdam marathon" says more than "Fundraiser for Quina Care".
- A short summary of one or two sentences. This is what people see in the list of all fundraisers.
- A target amount. Pick something that feels achievable. Going over it is fine — we simply show that you did.
- An end date. When does your fundraiser finish?
- Your story. What are you going to do, and why? This is the most important part of your page. People give to people, not to causes. So above all, tell them why this matters to you. You can format your text with the buttons above the text box: bold, italic, subheadings, bullet lists, links and quotes.
- A photo. A landscape photo works best. It needs to be at least 1200 pixels wide, otherwise it looks blurry. An ordinary photo from a modern phone is more than enough — just send the original rather than a copy shrunk by a messaging app.
- Extra files, if you have them. A route map, a poster, a sponsor's logo, more photos — you can send those along. They do not go on your page automatically; we will see what we can use them for.
What we do, what you do
We take care of:
- Your fundraiser page, including the donate button and the counter that tracks live how much has been raised.
- The translations into the other languages on this site.
- A QR code pointing at your page, which you can download for print.
- Promotional material if you need it: our logo, photos, and general information about Quina Care.
- Handling the donations and, where applicable, issuing a donation receipt.
We ask you to:
- Share your fundraiser in your own network. That is by far the biggest factor in how much you raise — much more so than anything we do on our own channels.
- Let people hear from you along the way: a photo, an update, a thank-you to your donors.
- Keep what you are doing safe and legal, and be clear with your donors about where their money goes.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost me anything?
No. We charge nothing for creating or hosting your page.
Can I change my page later?
Yes. Email us with the change and we will make it. Updating text, replacing a photo, adjusting your target or moving the end date is all possible.
What happens after the end date?
Your page stays up, but is no longer shown as a running fundraiser. Donating remains possible. That way your fundraiser stays findable afterwards and you can keep sharing it.
Are donations to my fundraiser tax-deductible?
Quina Care is a Dutch ANBI (registered public benefit organisation). Donations to Quina Care are deductible from Dutch income tax under the usual conditions. Because donations arrive in our account rather than yours, that applies to donations through your page too.
Which language should I write in?
Whichever you are most comfortable with: Dutch, English or Spanish. We take care of the translations into the other two.
Is every fundraiser published?
Almost always. We only check that it fits what Quina Care stands for and that the story is clear. In the rare case we cannot publish something, we explain why and think along with you.
I want to run on the same day as the Putumayo Run
Then you are probably looking for a hub rather than a separate fundraiser. Read how to organize a hub.
I have a question that is not answered here
Email us at care@quinacare.org. We are happy to think along, even if your idea is not fully formed yet.
